Klondike Derby
When: January 20-22 Where: Camp Mitigwa The Hawk Eye District Klondike Derby is this weekend and it's looking like we're going to have great weather for it. There probably won't be much snow, but we'll make things work no matter what the conditions are. As is normal for our camp outs, we'll be meeting in the parking lot at Cornerstone Church at about 5:15 with the plan to leave for Mitigwa at 5:30. Please try to be on time so we can leave on time. Everyone needs to wear their class A uniform (including neckerchief) on Friday night and on Sunday when we return to Ankeny. We will be returning to the parking lot at East Elementary on Sunday morning at around 10:30. The boys will call home when we leave Mitigwa to give a better estimate on our return time. It's important to remember that this is a winter camp out even though the weather hasn't been typical for Iowa winters. There is a good chance that the boys may be wet an/or dirty on Saturday, so it's going to be very important to bring extra clothes, hats, gloves, and boots. This camp out is the first outing that we'll be trying our new grubmaster fee plan. Everyone attending needs to pay $15 to the Troop before we leave on Friday. This is $12 for food costs, and $3 for fuel for pulling the trailer. Grubmasters will need to bring receipts on Friday or to a Troop meeting in order to be reimbursed for the cost of the food. Winter Survival Training When: January 28 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Where: Iowa State University Armory The Mid-Iowa Council is conducting a Winter Survival Training. This is an excellent program that many of the members of the Troop have attended over the last few years, and I encourage anyone interested in attending to take advantage of this program. This is an indoor/outdoor program, everyone attending will need to come dressed for the weather. The attendance is limited to 300 participants. The fee for this event is $20.00 per Youth Member or Adult Leader. This fee includes a continental breakfast, lunch, coffee for adults, and patch. An “Army Survival Handbook” will be available for $15.00 each. additional information and registration Ski Trip When: February 17-19 Where: Sundown Ski resort in Dubuque, IA. The cost of equipment, lift tickets, and helmet for two days will be $69/day plus food and gas. Helmets are required by the BSA. More information is coming soon. Simpson College Road to Eagle Merit Badge Sessions When: January 14, February 4, and February 25 This event was scheduled on an individual basis, so you should already be aware if you're attending this event. Strategic Air Command(SAC) When: March 30-31 Where: SAC Museum in Omaha, IA We will be doing the space exploration merit badge.
